In just three years, the number of cruise ships calling into port has more than doubled, and in 2016, shipping lines such as Viking Ocean Line, Cruise & Maritime, Fred. Olsen Line, Holland America Line, Seabourn Cruise Line, and others will send in total 21 cruise ships to Aalborg. In 2017, no less than 32 cruise ships will dock in this northern city which is Denmark’s fourth largest.

One of the main reasons for this increased popularity of Aalborg is the beautiful approach through rural idyll along the Limfjord, the friendly hosting, and the fact that the ships dock in the downtown area.

The cruise guests go ashore right in the middle of shopping, culture life, architecture, and restaurants. They are greeted by local guides and a classic, Danish hotdog stand that serves free, grilled hotdogs – with everything on it! This special welcome has proven to be a wonderful way of giving our guest a little something extra to remember.

The tourist agency Visit Aalborg and Port of Aalborg work together on attracting the many cruise ships.

The first cruise ship of the year will arrive in Aalborg on 4 May 2016.

It was an exciting but also emotional day for the people of Aalborg when the pride of the city, Magellan, which was built here 30 years ago, called into port in 2015.

Among other things, the cruise ship guests can look forward to a special welcome hotdog at a traditional hotdog stand.
